About the collection process
Why did Universum Inkasso send me a letter?
You have not paid your bill(s) from one of our principals on time. The latter brings us on board to ensure that you will pay your bill. The principal provides us with the necessary information about your outstanding debt.
I have received a letter from Universum Inkasso. What should I do?
By making a payment after our reminder, you will prevent an expensive procedure in the follow-up process. If you are really unable to pay, contact us. We will examine the financial options in order to reach an acceptable payment agreement.
Why are additional fees charged by Universum Inkasso?
It is possible that we increase your outstanding debt with our principal with non-legal expenses, which are included in the principal’s general delivery terms.
What should I do if I don't agree with the amount I have to pay?
You can put your objection in writing to Universum Inkasso, accompanied by any supporting documents (for example, a document from which it appears that the amount does not match). Do not forget to reference your file number in your letter.
What happens if I only make a partial payment?
If you do not pay the entire amount, you will receive a reminder from Universum Inkasso to settle the balance. If you fail to do so, the same will happen as if you do not pay at all.
What happens if I do not pay?
If you do not pay at all, additional costs will add up quickly. Interest will be added to your debt. In addition, the costs of legal proceedings are high and they are to be borne by you. They include, among others, information costs, bailiff fees, court fees, lawyer's fees and seizure costs.
How can you pay?
The letter states that you are to pay the full amount. By paying the amount using the enclosed transfer form at once, you will prevent further interest payments. After consultation with us payment in installments is also often possible.
You can also set up an automatic debit and transfer an amount from your bank account each month until your debt is paid in full. This will prevent you forgetting to pay!
What happens if legal steps are taken?
If legal proceedings are undertaken, the district’s justice of the peace will handle cases up to 1,860 euros in summary proceedings. In these cases we call on a bailiff. If the amount is higher, the case will be submitted to the court, in which case you will need a lawyer, thereby further increasing your expenses.
What does a bailiff do?
The bailiff is an independent public servant who helps to execute a court order. They ensure that the party having to appear before the judge receives a summons. But they are also the ones to seize salaries or goods and can possibly have a residence vacated.
